Title I Information
Title I is part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) enacted April 11, 1965 and provides funding to schools and school districts with high percentages of students who may fall into a low-income category as defined by the U.S. Census. In the Cedar Rapids Community School District 16 of the 21 elementary schools qualify for Title I funding. Funds may be used for professional development, instructional materials, resources (staff) to support educational programs, and the promotion of parental involvement. As a part of receiving the funding, Title I Plan must be written and accessible to staff and families, a Title I Compact is written and signed at the first parent-teacher conference, and the Title I Parent Involvement Policy is distributed in the handbook as well as at the first parent-teacher conference.
